Guest Room Changes
Sooo I decided to completely change the design of our guest room + here’s why…
Yesterday Nate and I got all ready to put up the wallpaper. We mentally prepared, unwrapped the roll and then stood there scratching our heads. Not only because we’ve never installed wallpaper before and had no idea where to start, (for context: Nate’s parents put up wallpaper in their first year of marriage and his mom swears they almost got divorced during the process) but also because the wallpaper just didn’t feel right in the space. I couldn’t put my finger on why and then Nate turned to me and said, “How are you planning on tying all the rooms together?”
This was it! The original design for this room didn’t fit in with the rest of the house. I want the lake house to have a cozy cottage look and while I love the blue striped wallpaper I picked out, it was making the room way too coastal. So, we’ve decided to skip the wallpaper for now.
Having the ability to change the direction of a project along the way is my favorite part of DIY. When you hire a contractor sometimes it can be hard to pivot in the middle but when you’re doing it yourself you can make changes in real time as you’re seeing the project come to life.
I think the lesson here is when you’re designing a space you should always think about the overall vision, style, and vibe you want your home to have. Yes, you might be scrolling on Pinterest and love the look of a Nantucket beach house (guilty) or an all white, sleek modern bachelor pad, but what style are you really going for? Do all the rooms carry have that similar vibe? Having a consistent feel throughout your home is really important (I’ll credit Nate for this epiphany!) and will make the space feel more cohesive and higher-end.
Here’s a peek at the new mood board. I’m so much happier with the direction the guest room is headed. Can’t wait to show you the finished space in the next couple of weeks!
